Step-by-Step Guide: Password Recovery for Nokia Routers

 Objective :-

If admin and system admin password of Nokia router is forgotten and you can’t login through red interface then you may need to go for password recovery process. This usually involves accessing the router through management port or console connection depending on the model. Nokia routers limit administrative access through management (mgmt.) interface or specific secure channels to prevent unauthorized access. Make sure “admin” user credentials are correct and red interface is configured to allow administrative access. In many cases physical access to the device is required along with credentials for recovery or reset. how to retrieve access of router, we need to follow process as below with the help of technician on site.

 

 


Password recovery process for “admin” on device with the help of technician.


1.    Power off the device.
2.    Remove stand by CPM card.
3.    Ensure that console cable is plugged to the device, and the login is appeared.
4.    Power ON the device.
5.    Press a key to interrupt the normal boot process when “Hit a key within 3 seconds to change boot parameters…” prompt appears on screen.

 

 

6.    Type “sros” and press Enter.

 

7.    Hit “Enter” to begin.

 

8.    Do not change image location and just hit “Enter”.

 

9.    Boot the Device with “Empty” config  



 When prompted change the boot config target to “none” and hit enter.

 

 

 

10.    Hit enter when you see license file location.

 

 

11.    Answer no for both Auto configuration options.

 

 

 

12. Answer Yes to preserve your existing network settings and ip network settings.

 

13. Please "Enter" to flips configuration.

 

 

 

14. Answer no to Automated Provisioning.

 

 

15. Answer no to bof.cfg file saved to CF to be encrypted.


 

 

16. Answer no to set password for any future changes to parameters during boot.

 

17. Don't save the BOF setting and let the device boot up with empty config.

 

18. login as "admin" with default password "admin" , after the device boots up.

 

19. Change the primary-config location in BOF with following command. The location should be identical to the one recorded in step 9.

 

 

20. Execute the original configuration via "exec" command. The original configuration was noted in step 9.

 

21. Change admin password with following command

 

Summary :-

 When you forget the admin and system admin passwords on a Nokia router and you can’t access the red interface, you need to initiate a password recovery process. This requires physical access to the device and an on-site technician. You need to access the router through the management port or console connection, power off the device and interrupt the boot process to load the system with a blank configuration.

  • Boot with default parameters.

  • Don’t change image and config locations.

  • Preserve existing network settings.

  • Boot with no saved config.

  • Log in as admin with default credentials ("admin"/"admin").

  • Restore original config and update admin password.
